Our
Mission
Kansas City Free Eye Clinic (KCFEC) is the
first vision health clinic in Kansas City, organized
in October 2008 exclusively for charitable purposes.
KCFEC facilitates the availability of no-cost
vision services to uninsured and underinsured
individuals in the metropolitan area. KCFEC
provides a link between concerned eye-care professionals
and people requiring basic vision services,
but without the means to pay for them.
By holding monthly to bimonthly clinics in
various locales, KCFEC attempts to alleviate
the burden of county hospitals and free health
clinics, which traditionally handle the bulk
of charity care, but often lack comprehensive
and preventative vision services. Those without
insurance rarely receive clinically acceptable
vision services. Vision care affords the opportunity
for maximum impact at low cost. From an efficacy
standpoint, eye care procedures are generally
straightforward, and yield dramatic results
for patients. For example, students with correctable
vision impairments receive eyeglasses and are
immediately positioned for greater academic
success. Working adults can undergo a simple
cataract procedure, enabling them to procure
jobs and further develop their skills in the
workplace. With specific and focuses activities
and goals, KCFEC will be a source of empowerment
for individuals.
